Hilltop Montessori School's mission is to provide quality Montessori education in an environment which fosters a child's love of learning and respect for self, others, community and the world.

Hilltop is a harmonious educational experience for children, where they are taught high academic achievement, independence, brotherhood, and a responsibility to school, family, themselves, society and our earth. Our teaching methods are based on the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, a physician, educator and humanitarian who devoted her life to the study and welfare of children.

Our green school is designed to be not only beautiful but healthful, with natural lighting and eco-friendly materials. Hilltop’s Board of Directors, administration, teachers, staff, students, and families invite you to explore this website and discover how we help our children grow.

Hilltop students participated in a multicultural festival on Friday, April 4. Each preschool or elementary classroom studied and presented a different country complete with decorations, activities, and food. Students toured each "country" during the festivities, celebrating Brazil, France, Israel, Pakistan, Jordan, and China.

Hilltop Montessori School is having open enrollment to the community for the upcoming school year. We currently have openings in the preschool, afternoon toddler class and in our middle school. Please contact the school directly to schedule a tour and learn more about our admissions procedures. Please note that our morning toddler class, lower elementary and upper elementary are at capacity but we encourage those interested to download an application and get on our waiting list.

All Hilltop parents are members of the PTO and are invited to every meeting. The next meeting is Monday, April 7th. Topics to be discussed include the Mt. Laurel Spring Festival, Hilltop Olympics, and situation with our school's gravel driveway. Check out the PTO page for PDF files of minutes from each meeting. Come see how the PTO helps our school, not just with fundraising, but with all kinds of opportunities for parental involvement!

Hilltop Montessori School is pleased to announce its recent grant to begin Phase One of it's Eco-Education Outreach Program. The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham is sponsoring the implementation of this project. Stay tuned to our website for more information. The Hilltop Montessori School community would like to thank the Community Foundation for their continued support of our programming and green school.

At Hilltop Montessori School, our mission statement and beliefs
are integral to the learning process.
The following list details our beliefs as educators:

  • Hilltop Montessori School maintains a commitment to the founding principles and philosophies of Montessori education.
  • All children have an innate drive and ability to learn.
The educational community should follow the child and meet each child’s needs.
  • Each child has a preferred learning style and progresses at an individual rate. The teacher must assess the child in an ongoing way and facilitate growth by challenging the learner.
  • The role of the teacher is to facilitate learning in a safe, secure, stimulating environment that promotes freedom of choice, encourages trial of new experiences and promotes learning.
  • A successful educational experience requires participation of the child, parents, teachers and the community.
  • Parental involvement is integral to a child’s academic, social and emotional success.
  • Each teacher has a commitment to growth that is exemplified by an ongoing personal development both in education theory and practice.
  • Hilltop Montessori School seeks to promote environmental stewardship through curriculum elements and through its building design.

Hilltop Montessori School does not discriminate on the basis of religion, race, color, national or ethnic origin regarding its admissions, policies, procedures, scholarship programs, or any other school-sanctioned programs.
